Beer bellies are not usually just the result of a lack of abdominal musculature tone. Sit-ups are not the answer, except perhaps in your teens or early twenties. You need an overall aerobic exercise program.
See your doctor for medical clearance, then visit your local gym, swim club, or YMCA for a fitness evaluation and trainer to supervise your workouts. You can also try swimming, walking, of jogging, gradually work up to 30 minutes a day until your beer belly is gone.
You should also adjust your diet and avoid excess alcohol (no more than two drinks daily.
