Can Natural Remedies Help My Arthritis?

Thursday, 02 Jan 2014 09:53 AM

By Peter Hibberd, M.D.

Question: I have been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis since 2010, and am tired of taking all the drugs for pain. Is there any natural remedy or diet that can help me?

Dr. Hibberd's answer:
Natural remedies and diet alone will not control the destructive changes seen with rheumatoid arthritis ( RA). You are definitely headed for trouble, if you try to self-manage this condition. New therapies that have emerged in the last 2-3 years will arrest this disease's progression and make you less dependent on anti-inflammatory medications alone.
You may benefit from immunosuppressive therapy, so your need for pain medications can be reduced or in some cases eliminated. Be aggressive with RA early, and the results will pay off handsomely later on.
