Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian President Vladimir Putin met recently in what they euphemistically described as a kumbaya moment. Presumably there was a pledge to work together to resolve crises in Syria and the Ukraine.

An agreement of the willing is meaningless if the unwilling do not participate. In the nuclear age it is far better to be safe , behind the wall of defensive weapons , than sorry after a failed effort at a freeze.

The air strikes on Yemen do put the U.S. in an awkward position since the easing of sanctions and an accommodative posture on nuclear weapons depend on an Iran that will live up to an accord. That level of confidence is certainly not shared by the Sunni nations.

Obama asserts that at some point Iran will be a member of the community of nations, a responsible member at that. Yet there isn’t a shred of evidence to support this assertion.

Obama dipped into the wishing well to contend that in time , with U.S. compliance , Iran will enter the community of nations and act responsibly. Of course, there is not a shred of evidence to support this claim.
